Save the elephants - Elephant Repellent

          BEHAVIOUR

Elephants form deep family bonds and live in tight matriarchal family groups of related females called a herd. The herd is led by the oldest and often largest female in the herd, called a matriarch. Herds consist of 8-100 individuals depending on terrain and family size.

STATISTICS OF CROP DAMAGE BY ELEPHANTS:

As overall, 31 crop species were cultivated during the
assessment period. Of which 24 species were damaged by
elephants to varying extents. Overall crop damage by elephants
in all forest ranges revealed that Banana 139.49
acres was the most damaged crop followed by Sorghum 122.35 acres and Sugarcane
59.14 acres

ECONOMIC LOSS:

Among the cash crops, Banana  and Sugarcane
was the most preferred crops by elephants. The
overall economic loss in a year was recorded high in Banana
 (34872.50 US $) followed by Sugarcane  (27598.67 US $), Sorghum(8156.67
US $). Among the 24 crop species, highest percentage
of economic loss recorded in Banana  (39.13 %)
followed by sugarcane  (30.96%) and remaining
crops were accounted only for below 10 %

PRESENT SOLUTIONS  :

  • Chilli and tobacco-based deterrents
  • Changing farming practices
  • Growing crops that elephants don't like
  • Crackers

Inspite of all these solutions , damage and economic loss does not reduce because none of the present solutions are sustainable.

OUR INNOVATIVE SOLUTION:
PROVIMI Products Provides an Innovative bio product known as"HERBOLIV+" acts as a wild animal repellent and plant growth promoter.

Our Innovation helps to keep the eco system intact. It helps to retain the organic nature of the crop. It helps to improve yield and shelf life of the produce. It helps to improve soil fertility by improving the biological properties of the soil thus helping the roots to absorb the nutrients quickly.  It does not harm the wildlife & wild birds in any manner.

FARMERS FEEDBACK FOR OUR INNOVATIVE HERBOLIV+:

   CROP:SUGARCANE

S.NoInference from data in video taken during trialReal time applicationTrial application
1General appearance of any agriculture field including sugarcane field.
  1. Will be solar or battery fenced.
  2. Will definitely have some wind breakers like silver oak or coconut or other trees in the borders.
  3. Sugarcane will be grown in criss cross manner in fields so that when sprayed with our HERBOLIV, it will not drip down to the soil so easily, and hence will retain the odour.
  1. Sample sugarcanes of 25 each in trial & control has been kept in 35-40 feet distance in elephant corridor without any fencing.
  2. Location being open land, wind blow is very high continuously and does not have any wind breakers. Wind blow itself will take off most of the odour and will reduce the efficacy.
  3. Sugarcanes are cut from field and kept for trial & control without any interlinking with nearby sugarcanes. All single sugarcanes can be seen with half feet gap inbetween.
2Understanding from video documentIn one acre, 30,000 sets of sugarcane will be placed. Each will give yield to 10 sugarcanes minimum to 20 maximum. In minimum yield, 3 lakh sugarcanes will be grown and when HERBOLIV is sprayed fully, odour emitted during wind from 3 lakh plants will be very much repelling the elephants. In 25 sugarcanes itself, even after drizzling took place after 3 hours from spray, and with continuous heavy wind blow, elephants have shown its strong resistance to eat the trial sugarcanes immediately when compared to 25 sugarcanes in control plot.
